Forge Biologics

Forge Biologics is an AAV gene therapy CDMO founded in 2020 in Columbus, Ohio. Its 200,000 sq ft facility, the Hearth, houses 20 cGMP suites and 20,000 L of bioreactor capacity, covering AAV process development, manufacturing, and analytics. It is now part of Ajinomoto Bio-Pharma Services, after Ajinomoto completed its acquisition in December 2023.

Everything is built around adeno-associated virus rather than spread across viral vectors, cell therapy, and protein work. That focus shows up in its FUEL platform, a set of proprietary technologies including Ignition Cells, the pEMBR 2.0 Ad Helper plasmid and modified rep/cap constructs, aimed at raising yield and improving AAV characterization.

Services run from molecular development through product-specific process development and into IND review, so a developer can stay with one manufacturer from discovery to clinical supply. Forge reports more than 60 clients supported, over 600 batches manufactured, and work across more than 35 indications.
