Thomas Processing, formerly Thomas Engineering, introduced the original Accela Cota in 1969 and has built tablet coating systems ever since, all manufactured in the United States. Its Accela Cota range spans R&D, batch, and continuous coating. It exhibited at Virtual Pharma Expo under the former name before IMA Group acquired the company.
The R&D machines carry external gun positioning, wash-in-place options, fully perforated drums, and the visibility a development coater needs for watching a process rather than only running it. Production batch machines scale the same principles, and the continuous coaters target uniformity and throughput while reducing the mechanical stress a long batch run puts on tablets.
Since joining IMA the business has been positioned within IMA Active's wider solid dose portfolio, so coating now sits alongside granulation, tableting, capsule filling and banding, weight checking, handling, and washing from a single group. It operates from Elgin, Illinois.
