Protak Scientific makes enzyme indicators for hydrogen peroxide bio-decontamination, a rapid alternative to biological indicators. Protak states that its enzyme indicators return a result in about 60 seconds, against the roughly seven days of incubation a biological indicator needs, which moves cycle development onto the same shift.

The second difference is that the result is quantifiable rather than a growth or no-growth reading, so a cycle can be optimized against specific surfaces and challenge points, and false positives and cycle failures can be investigated rather than simply repeated.

Its ATHENA software handles reporting, audit trails, and electronic data archiving in line with 21 CFR Part 11, which removes the manual transcription that traditional indicator records depend on. The company reports supplying 85% of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies. Beyond pharmaceutical manufacturing it works with CDMOs, equipment OEMs building isolators and decontamination systems, facility design engineers, hospital pharmacy and compounding, and university research groups.
