Klöckner Pentaplast

Klöckner Pentaplast makes the films that blisters are formed from, spanning mono rigid films for low-barrier applications up to laminated PVDC and COC structures for products needing high moisture and oxygen barrier. Its kpNext mono-PET range is designed for compatibility with the RIC 1 PET recycling stream, though collection and acceptance vary by market.

The pharmaceutical range is sold under the Pentapharm name. alfoil is a PVdC-coated line for mid to high moisture, oxygen, and aroma barrier; ACLAR laminates cover the high moisture end; and kpMax combines ACLAR lamination with PVdC coating for what the company calls the highest moisture and oxygen protection on the market. On the sustainable side, kpNext R1 is the mono-PET blister film and kpNext RB5 a vinyl-free, halogen-free barrier film for liquids and products needing chemical resistance. kpSilver is a thermoformable alternative to cold-form foil.

The company has made rigid films since 1965, when it was founded in Montabaur, Germany, and describes its pharmaceutical line as the most comprehensive in the industry, running from mono through high-barrier protective films. It also makes medical device packaging films for trays and clamshells, where the requirement is protecting a sterile device from physical damage and contamination, and supplies nutraceutical packaging from the same range.
